Indiana

2. He choose to start with the childhood because it gives more information about what he is trying to find later in the movie. Some people might not have known what was going on if it just started in his adulthood. The "Young Indy" is determined to get the grail which is similar to knights quest for the grail.
3. The cross is very important to him because his idea of it is that the cross should be an a museum rather then the other people's hands. He has an obsession with the cross.
4. The grail book contains parts from their life and before their life of the history and where it can be located. The book shows what you need to look beyond to actually find the grail.
5. Indiana has to go on a quest for the grail which resembles going for what you desire which desire has been shown in many of the books comparing it to woman.
8. Attaining the grail must involve choosing the right one because it is more of a desire then a need. He should know in his heart which one it is because of how much he wants it.
9. The grail cannot moved beyond the great seal because some things just can't happen from my perspective. You can't ask for too much of something which is what they are doing. At least he saw what he wanted.

small world part 4

How has Persse changed since the beginning of the story? Persse has changed since the beginning because of his new perspective on Angelica. He realizes that his love is not for Angelica and gets over her.

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

small world part 3

1. How does the ending make you feel?
It reminds me of a person who is selfish and does not care about what somebody else has to say and only wants to hear themselves. I felt that Persse is just another character that we read about with falling in love and either making a move or not making a move.

Monday, November 30, 2009

1. There are a lot of random things going on, why is that? There are many random and different things going on because the author is trying to fit everything in the story line. It shows the quest of knights and knights renown

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

small world

2. Lodge presents Persse as a regular person that is in the world that he is not use to. He has never seen this kind of place before. He is somebody who falls in love really quick which can resemble love at first sight.
4. Angelica is described as beautiful which is not unusual because usually the main characters in all books are pretty. Persse is so taken in with her because looks. People think looks are everything before they even really get to know the person.

the story of the grail

2. Perceval began to weep because he thinks about his mother and how he thinks that she died because of him leaving and that he should have tried to hear her out first and then proceed but he was just doing what he wanted. His self-image is considered to be selfish.
5. The unfinished ending leaves you on a cliff hanger. It makes you think what you want to happen or what should actually happen. I like the idea of how the ideas come into your head instead of hearing an ending that you might not like.

the story of the grail

1. White flower can be described as beautiful. Her role is sort of like a distracting or a bait because they fight for her. For example when the lover battled Perceval because Perceval earlier in the story took her ring and kissed her disrespectfully.
2. Chretien presents this scene to the reader because it is very important part of the story because this is what Perceval looking for. He doesn't know where to find it. The meal is presented as perfect because of all the good food and wine of any desire. It is just one part of the trail till he finds the grail.

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

the story of the grail

2. Chretien portrays Perceval as like a little boy in a toy store he is so amazed of what he is seeing. The image of knighthood being showed is the glory of the image of being a knight. Perceval perception of knighthood is he thinks they are god because how amazing they look. They conflict with each other because Perceval was not ever suppose to see a knight and he thinks they are from god or something and that is a very odd thing just because of their appearance. Chretien does this to show a different image of knights.
3. Perceval mother reaction is that she is very sad because she knew once Perceval saw a knight he would want to be one. She tells Perceval about his families past about his dad and brothers being knights and them dieing from it. She doesn't want to lose him too. He is all she has. He should have gave it a few weeks before he left to become a knight.
4. Perceval does some things that aren't to smart in order to become a knight. This can be a problem because his steps to becoming one aren't smart because at one point he just takes the maiden's ring from her when she is in the tent. Another he just challenges anybody which isn't good because he is not experienced yet. In the text he goes up to the red knight and challenges him and luckily hits the red knight in the eye and blows his brains out.

movie

1.The film is titled That Obscure Object of Desire because the man truly is desired to be with his lover. The "obscure object" could be shown as her not showing clear vision to him that he loves Conchita. The film shows this identity up until she quits her job and finally gives into him.
2. Terrorism can be shown as a background because it could be of the time period that the movie is suppose to take place in.
3. Bunuel uses two actress's because it might signify a different meaning.
4.The animal imagery shows a different perspective then a way of being told usually.
5. Matthieu is the narrator of the film because he has to explain why he threw the water on the lady. Most of the story is a flashback because it fits the sequence of events leading up to the story.
6. Celestina influence's this film because of how in the film and the book love really wasn't true in both or that both couples died on bad terms.
7. The final moments of the film can be viewed as very odd how it ends.
8. The burlap sac represents something but I'm not sure what it does.

The Celestine

1. Melibea and Calisto meet in the dead of the night because their love really isn't as it seems because most people who love people show their love kissing in public and holding hands and etc. They are different because they meet when nobody else is around.
2. Melibea and Calisto love might not really be sincere because its seems on and off like the mood of the time. It comes off more for sex. The suicide seems as guilt. She is a very emotional girl who maybe considered bipolar type.
6. The two worlds matriarchal and patriarchal play a major role because it symbolizes what she can and can't do. The society hypercritical expectations can relate to how black and whites were separated back in racism time when segregation was around. People expect certain people to do certain things.

Sunday, November 1, 2009

The Celestine

1. Calisto speech represents the happiness he expected because he said "I should be happy to have such a witness of my glory." I thought this quote was important because it is showing how he really feels about his feelings for Melibea. His desire finnaly became fulfilled but Melibea is acting a little fishy about having her desired fulfilled because she says it doesn't feel the same. The theme can be based on desire. When somebody wants something they have a desire to get it and will try as hard as they can to get it.

The Celestine

1. Celestina's actions are kind of weird because it comes of that she is hitting on Areusa. She is talking about how nice her breast are and how nice she looks. She is looking at her naked. She is probably bi-sexual because she is getting a little into looking at Areusa naked. She is showing a different side to her.
3. Melibea experiences that she finally has fallen in love after she is healed. I felt when I heard "breast full of serpents" that she had a sexual disease or something because of the name of it. Everything changes after Celestina heals Melibea.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

The Celestine

3.Melibea's reaction to Calisto's name strengthen my initial reaction because Melibea really can't stand Calisto. She wants nothing to do with him. I feel it is very funny how pissed off she gets when she even hears then name. She would probably kill him that's how much she can't stand him.
5. Calisto is blinded by "love/desire" It has to say that love can distract people from anything. Love can either make your life or ruin it. It is shown in history, current events and novels. People have such a desire for something that they must have it and will even do crazy things just to get a taste of it.

Monday, October 26, 2009

The Celestine

1. The Garden represents the opening scene. The garden can be considered as a chill spot. Calisto feels that Malibea would think it was romantic for him to say his confession to her in the garden.I thought it was kind of funny of Malibea's reaction. I feel since he said she is his reward she might take that like she is the best and superior over everyone else maybe. Calisto is pretty sincere in whst he says.
2. Calisto illness came because he was put under a spell. Calisto falls deeply in love with Malibea. She hates him and this makes him feel sick/ill. He feels that he deserves her. He probably comes off as a creep to her.

The Decameron

9.2 The nun's actions reflect up the church/ religion itself making it look bad because I start to think that nuns might actually do this in real life which is considered a sin. It would be hypercritical if they really were having affairs with men if there suppose to be celibate.
9.3 Calandrio friends are guilty because they trick him into something really stupid and he believes it. He obviously is not the brightest person. It reminded me of the movie Jr. with Arnold Schwartzinator when he has a baby being a male. The apperance shows how dumb some people can be.
9.6 The wife in the story is very intelligent realizing about everything that is going on when the one guy says he slept with the daughter. She covers everything up and pretty much her perception is that stuff happens. She can't go back in time and fix it so she has to live with it. Everybody was supposedly dreaming so nobody will find out what really happened.

The Decameron

7.4 The wife tricks the husband that she threw herself down the well. How does this outcome of the ending come off as? I feel of all the men in these stories are very dumb. They let all the ladies play with their heads. I don't know if it was like this back then. I felt that people would be more secure about what they did.
8.8 Spinelloccio was tricked into going into the chest. What do you think about the trickery that occured in the story? I felt that in most of these stories the men are always tricked or clueless about what the women are doing to them. They all come off to me as being whipped by the woman. This has been showed in many of these stories.

Sunday, October 18, 2009

The Decameron

5.10 What do you think about the outcome of the story? The ending was very weird how it ended because the woman ended up satisfying everybody instead of getting hung or anything from her husband which relates to story 6.7. The ladies in these two stories both cheated on their lovers and got away with the sins they did.
6.7 What do you think about Madonnna Filippa actions in the story? Madonna was very smart about how she handled the situation and got out of the trouble she was suppose to get in. She resemble Yseut in the movie when Yseut told the King Mark about how she knew Tristan before she came to the land and married King Mark and she got out of the trouble also.

Thursday, October 15, 2009

1. The maiden communicates with the man she desires by giving him signs by telling the friar that he pretty much stalks her but the man knows really that she has a thing for him and makes his moves to her. The friar comes off as a nice guy who is just doing his job but the maiden makes him look clueless of what is happening because she is feeding him lies. In the context she tells him that the man came by her house climbed the tree and tried to go through the window when her husband went away.
2. Ricaciardo plays with Catella's emotions by feeding her a bunch of lies about her lover. He comes off to me as a pervert. He pretty much raped her even though she thought she was making love to her husband but it was really Ricaciardo.
4. Love gone wrong can relate to Tristan and Yseut it wasn't suppose to happen but they feel in love with each other and ruin the kingdom and this story people were betrayed and it ruin love with the three lovers.

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

The Decameron

1. In all of these stories repetition has occurred because if something happens it always some how leads back to the beginning. The guy was tricked into believing that some lady was his sister and she ended up stealing his money but later on he takes a ring that was the same amount as the money that was stolen from him which ends up back to the beginning of having the same amount of money. A wider audience will catch on to his writing style that what happens in the beginning of the story always ends up making sense or gives a reason for it happening in the end.
3. The story has to say about femininity that some woman do anything to get what they want and be flirty and use their looks to get things. All the men in the story has so much lust for her because of how beautiful she was. Men were killing their own relatives and best friends for their desire of just having her. She is like their pet dog. In the text one of the men killed his own brother for her.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

The Decameron

Story 1.1 "On the other hand, he has been such a wicked man that he does not wish to confess himself or to receive any of the church's sacarements; and if he dies without confession, no church will wish to receive his body, and he will be thrown into a ditch like a dead dog." This quote interested me because later on in the story he confessed his sins and later became a saint because of the priests who he confessed to talked about how good of a man he was which was ironic to what the brothers were saying about him. The quote says about the theme that irony is very relevant to the brothers of what they have to say about their brother who is dieing.

movie questions

1. In the text the story started with the land being ruined because of a dragon which Tristan said he would go out and defeat so the land would become good again. The film begins like that most likely because they want to interest you and not bore you at the beginning. It makes you always wanting to expect more fights and be on top of your toes waiting for it.
2. The film not having the potion does change our interpretation of the film because in the story that's one of the reasons of how Tristan and Yseut fell in love because of it but in the film Tristan and her fall in love when she is taking care of him.
3. The film portrays Tristan as a warrior who is in love, Yseut as the one who's tagging Tristan on with their love and King Mark as the clueless person. King Mark is seen as the poor man who gets betrayed by everybody.
4. Yseut is shown in the film as the sneaky, betrayal lieing person who sort of peer pressures Tristan.
5. The barons are pretty much the same as in the text because they are both jealous and annoying people because they are like the people in life who you hang out with and say something about somebody and they run back to the person and tell the person that you were saying things.
6. The film ends that way because they had to cut events out from the text because they didn't want to keep dragging the movie out because it would have been way too long.
7. The focus of the film is on the love of Tristan and Yseut. The love is seen as the theme of the movie. It relates to the time period so they want to show it would be.

the end

1. Yvain gains a new identity because he wants a new beginning and he wants his lover back so he is just going through life battling and defending whoever needs help which makes him a new person with the addition of the lion.
3. Yvain and Laudine meet again and their reconciliation was somewhat interesting because it was a surprise for Laudine which she didn't really want and Yvain was so glad that him and her would become in love again but she was still pissed and felt betrayed and she might really not love him and not trust him but at her wishes she is with him again because she didn't know the knight with the lion was him which is another theory to the story

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

pages 324-355

3. Yvain reacts very quick to Laudine's messanger and is deeply hurt and his heart is destroyed of the news he hears. The news is that he broke the promise with his lover and she wants nothing to do with him. He goes crazy when he is in the wilderness and tears his clothes and eats animals raw. He changes drastically like a scavenger and looks like he got out of a crazy home naked. When he is cured by the lady, he awakes in amaze of what has become of him and does not know what to do and rest at the house while he recovers.
5. The dilemma Lunete encounters with the accusation of the barons is that they like to start trouble and want her killed like in Tristan and Yseut when Yseut was suppose to be burnt. It shows similarity between them.In the text "so like a woman:miserly with the truth, and generous with lies! The knight who's come to die on your account is crazy."

The lion and the knight

1. Well in Erec and Enide they were truly in love as the story progressed. At the beginning of this story Yvain and his new found love do not really know each other which is similiar to Erec and Enide. In this story Lunete marries Yvain because they need a new lord and someone who will protect them. At first she is so emotional about her original lover being killed and wants Yvain killed because of him killing her original love. She realizes that he might be as good as of a knight compared to her old husband. This story has a different vibe then Erec and Enide because she chooses to marry him instead of him choosing her even though he falls in love with her at first sight.
3. Yvain can be described as a knight that is decent looking. Lunete can be described as beautiful because in the text Yvain describes her as the most beautiful woman and how he falls in love with her at first sight. He describes her hair blond and so nice but she is ripping it out because she is very emotional.

Chapters 90-122

Chapters 90-122
1. Enide passed Erec's test when he hears her saying that she won't follow that king's orders or is not feared at him at all. Erec is thrilled by what he hears and realizes she really loves him. Their relationship has changed for the better and Erec says he will not even be upset with Enide if she disobeyed him because she has proved herself that she really loves him and he loves her. A lot has changed since they have left the kingdom and they realized they are truly in love. Erec put her through this to see what kind of person she was and he found out who she really was and he liked what he saw.
2. We are told of the "death" and the "rebirth" of Erec but it was shown that it was all a test for Enide for what she would do or say about it when he became concious and Erec liked what he heard her say. Chretien decided to include this because it shows the rebirth of their love again. It relates to the rest of the text because Erec and Enide become crowned king and queen when Erec father dies.

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Pages 60-90

2. Enide first words are "Wretch, unhappy me! Why did I come here from my land?" She is unhappy because everybody is talking about how Erec has changed because of her and he does not battle or anything anymore because he is pretty much whipped by her. Erec hears what she is saying when he is sleeping and is unhappy with what he has heard her say and he wants to know why and then he finds out why she is moping and wants to show everyone that he is still the best knight in the land and starts a journey to leave his bed and show his skills off pretty much.
3. Erec's intentions in takin Enide on the journey is to show her and everyone else that he is still the superior knight in the kingdom and everywhere else he crosses upon. In the context Gawain wanted him to stay and rest and heal up but Erec would not and wanted to continue his journey. It shows that his is on a mission to show everyone who he is.

Chretien De Troyes

Pages 37-60
4.The second contest in the text is the battle and at stake is power and respect and the bird which represents beauty because you have to have one of the most beautiful ladies in the kingdom to compete and that contest represents meaning to the power that the knights have in the kingdom and that Erec finds the next queen and will she will become rich and powerful and not have to worry about anything.
5. The scene with the dress implies that no matter how ugly or worn out her clothes are she will always be the most beautiful lady in the kingdom and beauty represents power she has. Enide's character is easy going. She agrees to do everything that is asked of her.Erec views her as like the perfect girl and nothing can take anything away from her.

Chapters 14-19

3.Tristan madness comes from him not being able to see his lover and it just makes him go completely crazy while he travels back to Cornwell. It is definitely possible of him becoming crazy because he is traveling alone and sick from not being with Yseut. He is trickery when he pretends to be the leper and ends up hustling everybody but it was all part of his plan to win or become close to Yseut again.
4.Tristan and Yseut must die at the end because it was all meant to be. They really loved each other and it showed when he died she could not live without him so she ends up dieing as well. These deaths are interpreted by true love. The text interprets their deaths as something that could happen because true love is real. It is similar to Romeo and Juliet. The ending goes back to when they first meet and shows that everything that happened throughout the whole story comes to a meaning that they really loved each other the whole time and everything happens for reason.

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

chapters 7-13

1. Tristan and yseult stay in the woods for survival while they try to escape whoever from the kingdom who is following. They live like scavengers because their clothes are torn apart from the branches and Tristan must protect them from followers and must hunt animals for food. Tristan in the context had to teach the dog not to bark when hunting because they feared of anyone to hear the dog or them when they were traveling. They end up regretting this because they feel it was a bad idea because of all the misery and sacrifice they had to make while running from everybody.
2. Tristan and Yseult repentance sounds half true half fake because at one point they did love each other even though they were under the potion but if somebody loves somebody its usually your whole lifetime that you will love them and they can't just stop loving them. In the context they spent along time together from when they were having the affair to when they escaped from being burnt so they have been through a lot together. They can't just say they never loved each other because they really did and they probably still do even though they are writing that letter to king Mark.

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Chapters 1-6

1.Tristan is a tough knight that gets done what he needs to get done like in the text when the dragon was ruining the land. Tristan said he would set out and find it and fight it and he went out and found the dragon and defeated it and killed it but was poisoned by the dragon unfortunately. Tristan is appeared as tough because he is a knight and he gets things done.
Yseut comes off nice but becomes very sneaky and sneaks around king Mark's back and falls in love with Tristan like in the text when she meets up with Tristan in the woods at night and see's the king's shadow in the trees so she plays off like she doesn't love Tristan and everybody is making up rumors about them and she never has cheated or would ever even cheat on the king because he is such a noble man.
4. Tristan side is where my opinion would stand because he does what is needed to be done and he is told what to do and he is a straight up guy even though some of the things might not be agreed with upon other people's opinions.
